Dubbed ‘Rock Hoppers’ (Hospitality Operations at the Rock) the program has seen five local school leavers complete a Certificate III qualification whilst rotating within different hotels.
There were two Indigenous trainees within the group and their success will be promoted to other Indigenous school leavers.
“The key to success was having Voyages focus on the quality training aspect of the placement and GTNT support and mentor the trainees in the workplace” said Mike Chep, Area HR Manager Ayers Rock Resort.
The program was originally designed to support gap year employment however all five apprentices plan to stay on for another year and undertake higher qualifications.
“This is a terrific outcome as it compliments the extensive learning and development program which we have in place at the Resort.”
We see Alice Springs and the ‘Rock Hoppers’ program as a key element of an overall recruitment strategy.” said Mr Chep
“Due to the success of the program, GTNT and Voyages will offer ten (10) places in 2010 to local school leavers” said Mr Yoffa.
Potential employees and their parents are invited to an information session to be held at GTNT (19 Hartley Street) on Monday 30th November at 6pm. Both GTNT and Voyages staff will be on hand to answer questions. Email enquiries to antony.yoffa@gtnt.com.au
