In 2008, GTNT commenced a committment to reducing the impact on the environment through its business opGTNT - Community & Environment erations in the NT.

This proposal aims to provide a structure of sustainability services to GTNT clients who are looking to implement a "green" policy and sustainability within their organisation.

INTRODUCTION

GTNT - Community & Environment Introduction

GTNT is a not for profit organisation, operating Territory wide with offices in Darwin, Katherine, Nhulunbuy, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs

GTNT operate recruitment and mentoring service to host employers and apprentices in the Northern Territory. GTNT screen, recruit and employ apprentices/trainees and then place them with "host" employers, usually from small to medium sized enterprises.

GTNT is the largest employer of apprentices in the Northern Territory with over 500 apprentices/trainees and supported by over 150 host employers.

In 2008 GTNT commenced a commitment to reducing the impact on the environment through their business operations in the NT. The company’s strategic direction to become a Model Corporate Citizen led them to adopt a Carbon abatement strategy. The strategy encompasses a range of activities, policies and projects to reduce the environmental impact of operations. GTNT’s Carbon abatement strategy, won the Commercial Division of the Melaleuca Environmental Excellence Award in May 2010.

This proposal is to provide a structure for sustainability services provided to external clients, who are looking to implement green policy and sustainability within their enterprises.

Services offered include, but are not limited to:

  • Consultation and engagement to determine requirements
  • Sustainability Assessment of Business Operations and report
  • Implementation assistance through staff training, development and mentoring.
     

Services will be provided by Emily Hinds, Sustainability Officer GTNT.

Methodology 

Business Consultation and Engagement 
A one hour session at the premises to discuss service options, and to determine the organisations requirements, and current practices in relation to sustainability and environment.

  • Profile of business – i.e. manufacturing, administration, retail.
  • Number of employees and business structure
  • Current policies or participation in sustainable operations
  • Where to/how far (discuss potential investment into sustainability)
  • Potential ability in projects – e.g. ownership of premises, leasing arrangements
  • Decision making
  • Benefits of adopting sustainability and efficiencies
  • Service expectation and costs

Sustainability Assessment and Report
Consultation and observation over 1-3*days on site with key staff and management to identify: practices, policies, resources used and operating framework of business. Identify basic consumption levels of: Electricity, Fuel, Water, Waste, Resources/Consumables and Travel.

Provide a report to Business assessing each of the above areas, with recommendations and opportunities to reduce and operate more efficiently and sustainably. Guidance and referral to Government initiatives, grants and programs, business networks, innovative products and technology where applicable.

The report will draw information from varying sources, but not limited to:

  • Key staff interviews including Human resources, Finance staff, etc.
  • On site observation/inspection
  • Workplace policies and procedure documentation
  • Surveys of staff attitudes
  • Supplier documentation, invoices and consumption report.

Training and Support Service
Assist business to implement actions and recommendations through training and mentoring.

  • Staff training to engage sustainability in the workplace and understand the need for business change
  • Personal mentoring and support service with key staff to implement changes and recommendations.

Costs

It is anticipated that the following fee range would apply to small – medium enterprises, based on a 1-3 day site assessment. Assessment completed over a pre determined timeframe.  Should the client proceed with the service, a service agreement is to be completed.
