Apprentice Procedures
Travel & Accommodation when attending Trade School in another centre or interstate
- Call up notice for Trade School date sent by Registered Training Organisation (RTO) to Employer and Apprentice
- Apprentice must complete and sign Apprentice Travel Declaration
- GTNT will book and pay for your airline bookings usually about 4 weeks prior to travel.
- Accommodation and incidental allowances will be paid into the Apprentices bank account prior to travel.
- The Apprentice will be notified in writing of the travel itinerary and how much accommodation and incidental allowances has been paid to them about 4 weeks prior to travel.
- The Apprentice is responsible for arranging accommodation bookings.
Applying for Annual Leave
- Accrued annual leave may be taken after consultation with the Host Employer and approval by GTNT
- A minimum of 2 weeks notice is required prior to leave being taken
- Apprentice to complete Apprentice Application for Annual Leave
Not applicable to School Based Apprenticeships
Sick Leave

The Apprentice must notify the Host Employer and GTNT within one (1) hour of the normal starting time on each day of absence.
- Medical Certificate is required when:
- Two or more consecutive days are taken
- Prior to or after a weekend, public holiday or a scheduled day off
- GTNT request it
- A maximum three (3) single day’s sick leave per calendar can been taken without a doctor’s certificate.
- Certificates to be faxed with relevant timesheet. There is no requirement to complete a sick leave form.
Note: Not applicable to School Based Apprenticeships
Timesheets & Pay
- Apprentice must correctly complete Timesheet supplied by GTNT
- The timesheet must be signed by both Apprentice and Host Employer
- Timesheets to be faxed together with any other documentation (ie medical certificate, leave form etc) no later than 12.00 noon on the Monday following the completion of each pay week
- Apprentice may not be paid for incomplete or late submission of timesheet.
- Apprentice pays will be disbursed into the nominate bank account on Thursday of the following pay period.
What happens when I get injured at work
- The Apprentice must immediately notify the Host Employer and GTNT of any incident no matter how minor resulting in an injury.
- If medical attention is required the Apprentice must inform the medical practitioner that:
- The injury is work related
- GTNT is the Employer
- Obtain Workers Compensation Medical Certificate
- Apprentice must complete the following forms in conjunction with GTNT Field Officer
- Apprentice Injury Report
- Workers Compensation Claim
- The following documentation must be provided to the GTNT Field Officer:
- Apprentice Injury Report
- Workers Compensation Claim
- Workers Compensation Medical Certificate
- Tax Invoice from medical practitioner
In the event of a Cyclone
- At the commencement of the cyclone season GTNT will inform the Apprentice and Host Employer of the company’s cyclone procedures
Termination Procedures
- Final timesheet
- Field Officer to arrange necessary paperwork and liaise with the Apprentice.
- Final pay will disbursed in Apprentice bank account
- Apprentice to advise postal address and contact details for Payment Summary (Group Certificate) and any other relevant documentation
Payment Summary (Group Certificate)
- Apprentices should ensure that postal address in current by advising the Field Officer or completing and submitting Change of Address
- Payment Summaries are mailed to Apprentices mid July. Apprentices will be advise of the date closer to the time by the Field Officer.
