Parents Information Pack

1. What is a Group Training Organisation?

  • Group Training Organisations (GTOs) offer you expert advice and assistance to find the right apprenticeship or traineeship.
  • GTOs employ over 40,000 apprentices and trainees throughout Australia so you have access to the largest employer network of apprentices and trainees.
  • GTOs can organise apprenticeships and traineeships wherever you are, in both city and regional areas in all states and territories.
  • GTOs place apprentices and trainees with a range of small and large host businesses who provide on the job training so with a GTO you have more choice and opportunities.
  • GTOs ensure you receive all your entitlements and they monitor your progress, offering support as you need it.

 

2. What benefits will my son/daughter gain from GTNT?

  • Full Time Apprenticeship/Traineeship:
    • Monthly apprentice mentoring by GTNT Field Officers.
    • High course completion rates through careful management/support for the apprentice & host employer.
    • Apprentice/trainee assured of continuous work & training, culminating in a national qualification.
    • Arranging, mentoring & managing on & off the job training for apprentice/trainees.
    • Arrange apprentice rotations to broaden training opportunities.
    • Arrange alternate apprentice work placements when required.
    • Counsel & care for the apprentice.
  • School Based Apprenticeship:
    • You can finish Years 11 and 12 while you start your apprenticeship.
    • You are paid a training wage or apprentice wage for the time you spend 'on-the-job' with your employer.
    • You are covered by a training contract, which links to an industrial award or agreement.

 

3. What is the GTNT Recruitment process?

  • Throughout the year, GTNT attend school’s right across the Northern Territory and conduct school career expos and school presentation’s to assist students with future career options and job pathways. GTNT also conduct Parent/Student Information nights with the same aims – to assist people find a career.
    • Step 1: Fill in the GTNT Registration Form
    • Step 2: Send in your Resume to our Recruitment Officer (email: recruitment@gtnt.com.au).
    • Step 3: You will receive a letter from GTNT stating that your application has been received.
    • Step 4: If there is a vacancy for your preferred industry, you will be asked to come into GTNT to complete an aptitude test and also an interview with our Recruitment Officer.
    • Step 5: If there are no current vacancies for your preferred industry, GTNT will send you a letter to advise of other vacancies on offer & to assess your interest. In the meantime, GTNT will keep you fully informed of preferred vacancies.
    • Step 6: When you apply for a vacancy, GTNT will send a referral letter to the host employer stating your interest in the apprenticeship/traineeship.
    • Step 7: The Host Employer will then request an interview with you to discuss your suitability.
    • Step 8: If successful, GTNT will then sign the applicant up for the chosen apprenticeship/traineeship
    • Step 9: You commence your apprenticeship/traineeship.

 

4. What Industries can my son/daughter do an Apprenticeship/Traineeship in?

  • GTNT is active in most industries – automotive, construction, electrical, plumbing, engineering, horticulture, community services, retail, hospitality, business administration and more.
